Ingredients

  • 4cups all-purpose flour (divided)
  • 1 1/2cup butter (divided)
  • 1/3cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2teaspoon vanilla extract

Imagine having it next to your happy-faced gingerbread cookies or pumpkin cupcakes. This apple is baked using apple, a famous fruit readily available and an essential ingredient in our recipe. 

You will add some lemon juice and lemon zest to control the extra sweetness. There is also applesauce in this recipe, and you can go for either the sweet or unsweet type based on your desire. You can keep it simple for the topping and have the common topping of apple streusel made of butter, cinnamon, sugar, and flour used for tossing the sliced apples in. These sliced pieces then go to decorate the top of your cake.

Instructions

Step 1

Bring a 9×13 inch baking pan and grease it lightly. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.

Step 2

Add 3/4 cup butter, 1/3 cup sugar, 2 cups all-purpose flour, vanilla extract, and one egg in a mixer bowl. Blend them all until the whole ingredients become incorporated. Spread the dough on a baking sheet and then put it in the fridge. In the meantime, you can make an apple and crumble layer.

Step 3

The remaining butter that is ¾ cup should have been outside the fridge to get to room temperature.

Step 4

Peel the apples, core them, and chop them into smaller chunks. Mix chunks with lemon juice, lemon zest, cinnamon, and apple sauce. Set the bowl aside.

Step 5

Mix 3/4 cup of soft butter with 2 cups of flour and 1/2 cup sugar together in the bowl with a stand mixer. Ingredients should become brittle and crumbly.

Step 6

Spread the apple mixture onto the layer of dough. After that, put crumbs on top of the cake. Use your fingers to crumble them on top. You can make bigger crumbs if you try. Pay attention crumbs should not become too fine.

Step 7

Bake the cake for 45 minutes. Crumbs should become golden.

Step 8

Allow the apple streusel to cool down totally. Serve it with vanilla ice cream if you desire.

Cooking Notes

Unsweetened applesauce is a better ingredient because the flavor of the cake is not too sweet in this scenario.

You don’t have to press the crumbs onto the cake. While it’s baking, crumbs will melt smoothly.

You can put the cake in the refrigerator again after it’s cooled down. If the cake is covered in foil, it can be maintained in the fridge for a few days. 

For better taste, try to make the Streusel bigger. You need to use your hands and rub the dough with your fingers.
