Ingredients

  • 1kilogram lean ground beef
  • 1onion diced
  • 1jalapeno, seeded and finely diced
  • 4cloves of garlic minced
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons chili powder divided (or to taste)
  • 1teaspooncumin
  • 1green bell pepper seeded and diced
  • 400gramscanned crushed tomatoes
  • 500gramscanned kidney beans, drained & rinsed
  • 400grams diced tomatoes with juice
  • 1 1/2 cupsbeef broth
  • 1tablespoontomato paste
  • 1tablespoon brown sugar, optional
  • Kalleh cheddar cheese for decorating
  • salt and pepperto taste

Instructions

Step 1

Mix ground beef and 1 ½ tablespoons of chili powder together.

Step 2

Brown the ground beef, onion, jalapeno, and garlic in a skillet over medium heat. After that, drain off any excess fat.

Step 3

Add other ingredients to the pot and bring to a boil. Now reduce the heat and simmer for about 45-60 minutes. Otherwise, you can finish this step when the food has reached the desired thickness.

Step 4

Use Kalleh cheddar cheese, green onions, or cilantro for decorating your food. It’s not rigid instruction, and you can add your favorite toppings instead of the mentioned ingredients.

Cooking Notes

For adding toppings, here are some of the most favorite things for this food: sour cream, red or green onion, cheddar cheese, jalapenos, cilantro, avocado & lime wedges, croutons, or tortilla chips.

You can use ground poultry or turkey instead of ground beef when cooking. 

 

You can also choose low sodium or low sugar products to decrease the level of salt and sugar in this recipe.

You can serve the food with white rice.

If the meat is so fatty, try to drain it before simmering.

To thicken your meal, the best idea is to simmer it. If you are in a hurry, add some cornmeal or cornstarch. You can also use flour.

Instead of red kidney beans, you can add pinto beans or black beans.

To remove an extra amount of salt and starches, rinse beans.

To have a better taste, combine chili powder into the raw ground beef. It is made of sweet paprika, cayenne pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, and cumin.
