Step 1

Wash the chicken with water and dry it well. Put the chicken breast in a ziplock or any plastic bag, then pound with a rolling pin or mallet to flatten it.

Step 2

Mix all the spices, minced garlic, mixed herbs, coriander leaves, salt, lemon juice, hot sauce, and honey in a clean bowl, then coat the flattened chicken breast well. Cover the bowl and rest the marinade for at least an hour in the fridge.

Step 3

Heat the extra virgin olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. When the oil is hot enough, carefully place the marinated chicken breast on the skillet, and cook each side for 2 or 3 minutes. While the chicken steak is cooking, brush it with the marinade mixture. When it is cooked on both sides, take them out and let them rest.

Step 4

In a bowl, mix the all-purpose flour and water to make a slurry. Add the slurry to the skillet, then add the remaining marinade. Bring the mixture to a boil, and let the sauce thicken, then turn the heat off.

Step 5

Drizzle the prepared sauce on the chicken steaks, and garnish as desired. Serve hot with a side of roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes.

Cooking Notes

You can also use unsalted butter instead of oil in this recipe.

You can make the chicken steak in the oven, or on the grill.

If desired, skip the slurry sauce. However, the slurry sauce adds more flavor to the chicken steak and keeps it more juicy and tender.
